Zechariah 12:10

Zechariah 12:10

“- and they will look to Me concerning the one who was pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only son, and they shall be in bitterness over him as one is in bitterness over a firstborn.”

The missionary interpretation of this section of the verse has Jesus as the “one who was pierced” and the mourning described, is the Jewish embarrassment upon discovering that their rejection of him was unjustified.

This interpretation fails for several reasons. Firstly, the mourning is described as the mourning for a lost child, and not as a cry of shame. (For a scriptural description of an admission of shame, see Micah 7:7-17.)

Secondly, the missionary interpretation ignores the context of the verse. The chapter in Zechariah in which this verse is found, speaks of the siege of Jerusalem. The prophet describes how the nations will besiege Jerusalem, but they will not succeed. The prophet describes how a Jewish contingent in the besieging army will do battle against the nations that have come to besiege Jerusalem. The Jewish warriors will succeed, and the nations besieging Jerusalem will be destroyed. It is in the context of this battle that there will be a great mourning for the “one who was pierced.”

The Talmud (Succah 52a) understands that this verse is a reference to the death of a Messiah from the tribe of Joseph. This leader, who successfully led the Jewish people in battle against their enemies, will fall at the hands of the nations. At the time of the ultimate victory (under the leadership of Messiah from the lineage of David) the people will mourn for the loss of their former leader. They fact that their leader had died in battle will generate a spirit of repentance and turning back to God. Thus the prophet declares in the name of God that the people will look to me (God) on account of the one that was pierced.

This is obviously parallel to the first events of David’s monarchy. The first activity that David engaged in as King of his people was to mourn for Saul (2Samuel 1:17). In fact the only two people in scripture who died through piercing, and were mourned, are Saul and the unspecified person in this verse in Zechariah. Although David (and his descendant the Messiah) is the ultimate leader chosen by God to guide the nation, the Davidic Kings recognize the sacrifice of the leaders that preceded them and that laid the groundwork for their kingship. Their first act as leader of their people is to mourn for those who suffered and died before they reached that ultimate victory.

Thank you Dina for the link!

Yisroel addressed the interpretation of missionaries. My interpretation is given as in broader context of a spiritual war against the Chosen One the Messiah and the satan.

The sect of the Pharisees made the satan a good guy or girl where he or she is a simple prosecutor. That is so against the Torah and the Prophets that it suffice to read with a sane mind Genesis through Malachi to see that the satan is more than a prosecutor but the adversary of the Messiah and the holy People.

Actually the coming of Yahushuo the Eternal Messiah in the Flesh was to destroy the power of the satan on Israel and nations by destroying the power of sin and to restore the worship of many nations to the One Elohim, Elohei Abraham Isaac and Yaakov. Through Christianity nations were conquered by the witnessing of the Apostles who spread the seed of the Faith all around the world.

But the battle is still going on for it will be complete when all Israel will recognize and mourn the Messiah whom they pierced… For the Romans where the hands who pierced but the mind and the intent came from the leaders of our nation who masterminded the killing of the Messiah. As Caiphe said it : it was better to sacrifice one of our own than that the people perish… he was prophesying here being the high priest.

The link expose the satan as the adversary of the Chosen One exactly like the Apostles taught us and contrary to the lies of those of the sect:

This passage of Zachariah the prophet teaches us from the Ruah holy that the satan is to be rebuked, reproved,… If he is a good angel why is he to be rebuked by YHWH.

False doctors of the sect teach that all angels are all good. But then why this passage:

”Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. 2 And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you!” (Zechariah 3 NKJV)

Here is the literal translation to respect the accurate meaning of the text:

”And he showed me Yehoshua the high priest standing in front of a Messenger of YHWH and the satan standing at his right-hand to accuse him
And he will say YHWH against the satan ‘he will rebuke YHWH in you the satan and he will rebuke YHWH in you the chosen in Yerushala’im’ ”

What an amazing prophecy!! We see the battle between the Chosen and the satan where YHWH is against the satan but where the liberties of each are respected. We are in this combat. Those choosing the Chosen are with YHWH those choosing the satan thought they won in Yerushala’im when in the satan they crucified the Chosen. Now will we seen in our generation the true winner:

8 In that day the Lord will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; the one who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the Angel of the Lord before them. 9 It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.

10 “And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. (Zechariah 12)

    • Eliyah Lion says:

Here again we see that whom they pierced is Elohim in the Flesh for it is said:

“…then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son…” (Zechariah 12 v.10)

On Me is the Son speaking… mourn for Him is YHWH speaking… hinting that the People will recognize in the last days when Yerushala’im will be surrounded that the Eternal Son in the flesh was Yahushuo true Elohim from the Elohim One Elohim, Elohei Israel…

      וְהִבִּיטוּ אֵלַי אֵת אֲשֶׁר־דָּקָרוּ

…And they shall look Elay whom they pierced…

אֵלַי is translated unto me by many but it is a dual form of ancient Hebrew which means dual EL hinting that this being is elohim and man for how can EL be pierced if He has not taken in His Son the form of Adam??

      • Sharbano says:

You are actually going to, once again, bring up “ancient Hebrew”. You have proved beyond Any doubt that you are ignorant in Hebrew. You’re using this so-called dual form when That is Not how Hebrew works. It is simply made up by You. It’s one thing to use the “Root” of the Hebrew word but you are distorting even that.

      • Eliyah Lion says:

He he Sharbano you are getting funny here. You do not even Know the dual form. You should know or may be your persian origin did not initiate you to ancient Hebrew and the dual form which is very present in middle eastern language till now…

It is not the root who determine the dual form but the termination:

yod+ yod + mem (modern dual) (to be read right to left)

        or

yod + Kamatz or patach (ancient dual) (to be read right to left)

        example Adonay, Elohay, Elay

        Yeday : יְדָי = hands (two) see Daniel chapter 3 verse 15

Sharbano study study study with good teachers. Your salvation is important brother. I love you may YHWH shine his face upon you!!

  6. Sharbano says:

Piercing of the “Mind”? You’ll say ANYTHING to justify a belief. Since the text doesn’t apply to the Jews you’ll come up with Something to make it so. What DESPERATION!!

    • Eliyah Lion says:

Sharbano still the vitriol in your heart and mind. Be constructive debate like Con instead of insulting proving with your few words that your position is weak.

      You can do it!!

      • Sharbano says:

There’s No Debating the absurd and ridiculous. It’s moot.

      • Eliyah Lion says:

Sharbano your heart is angry and full of vitriol. Repent and turn to the light of YHWH.

Let go your idols and go out of Babylon turn to Elohei Israel for a man seduced by sects and distorting the Scriptures with a bitter heart can not enter Shama’im nor Paradise…That is a serious warning!!

P.S.: Pray with Tehilim (Psalms) may be like king Saul you will feel better…But he was cursed for having disobey the prophet Samuel. O man with the stiff neck when you will open your eyes to the truth and submit yourselves to the Word of YHWH …

  7. Sharbano says:

Oh, I did forget it is Your contention that “Xtians” taught Rabbis the Hebrew language. Evidently your Hebrew comes from those same Xtians, Flawed.

  8. Sharbano says:

Sounds like more Spiritual adultery once again. Mercy ONLY comes from Hashem and thus the attribute meaning of His Name. Mashiach means anointed, NOT mercy. More proof in your lack of knowledge in Torah Hebrew.
Do you really think anyone of us here is going to believe in wood and stone.
